Black is the New Black

Brian Atwood

Just last season, designers were raving about color and wild prints. Now, they are embracing the old standby: black. The color appeared everywhere this season. They made the dark shade in leather and lace, proving that edgy flair comes in many materials. Brian Atwood went punk with over-the-knee stiletto boots (see  above right), and, Emilo Pucci made a somewhat girlier lace top.(above left).

Dreamworks

Tuesday, August 14th, 2012

Fairies, ponies, and rainbows, were what you wore on sweatshirts when you were little. But, you can modernize it by pairing a little girls tee with My Little Pony, rainbows, or anything else little kiddie with combat boots and adding a studded belt. Mess up your hair with some gel and a flat iron. Put on a dark vampy lip stain and wear a destroyed denim skirt, micro miniskirt (with tights) or distressed skinny jeans. If the neck is too high for you, hold your top where you want the neckline to be, and put a pin or brooch to make the top less frumpy. FYI, if nothing from the girls section fits you, go to Walmart and grab and adult pajama tee.

Crazy Cool Denim

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Okay, so I know I did a post on colored denim in the spring, but I just have to do it again. But now wild jeans are becoming more extreme. I just snagged a pair of originally$68.00 leopard print skinnies for 13.99 at Kohls. Jeans are 1.becoming more crazy and printed and 2. going on sale. But this is important. Make sure they are skinny or bootcut. Flare jeans will make you look like you just stepped off of the Paris runways-in a bad way. But if you go the bootcut route route, make sure you are at least 5’4. If you are really petite the print and shape will swallow you and your body up.

Be Edgy in the Summer

Wednesday, July 4th, 2012

Sometimes in the summer, it can be hard to keep your punk-rock style because wearing all black can be impractical in the summer. I love abstract animal print maxi dresses. I also love neon or brightly colored tops with handkerchief hems. They look funky without being super goth. Also. a neon studded belt will give even the girliest of outfits a punk twist.

Spice Up Your Summer Uniform

Sunday, June 10th, 2012

Your summer uniform is something you wear a lot, like a tank and cutoffs. You can make this more fashionable by subbing the plain jean cutoffs for cutoffs of colored denim or even printed jeans. Add a tank or tee in a bright color, or if the print is really wild, plain black one works too. Add fierce sunglasses and lip gloss and go!

Standout Nails

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

Wearing the same color on your hands and feet looks so cliche and predictable. A better strategy is to use colors that either compliment each other or make each other stand out. I like red and nude for sophistication or violet and lemon to look fun. Silver and gold look super luxe together, while black and neon look rock chic.

Style confidence

Saturday, March 10th, 2012

Never, ever,be scared to stand out. It always pays off. And if you epic fail, you’ll know not to do that next time. Take a risk with a color you don’t always wear,or an extreme print. Lop off your hair or grow it out. But remember not to go overboard. Rock the huge hair, the sparkly dress, or the blingy necklace.

Find your style!

Sunday, February 12th, 2012

Your accessories are the key to finding out what your style is. Have a silver studded leather cuff or belt? You are a punk rock rebel. Own a slap watch or many Converse All Stars? You are sporty chic. Glitter galore? You’re a glam diva. Girly girls tend to have floral things and gold and silver chains. Have a little bit of everything? You are a true original.

Hot Trend 1: Colored Jeans

Saturday, November 26th, 2011

So I went to Marshalls today and got hot pink skinny jeans for 16.99! They are edgy, cool, and so hot now! If you are a ruler, look for zipperless jeggings. If you’re curvy, like me, look for jeans with a more denim feel and zippers. (Fab Girl’s Tip: Don’t spend much. They’re not a basic you will wear every day, like normal skinnies.)

Rock Color!

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Contrary to popular belief, you can even make hot pink and pastels look edgy! Pair hot pink jeans with a rock graphic tee and studded belt . Or, for date night, rock a baby blue or pink mini dress with a  bomber jacket. Add a deep red pout and a cat- eye and you’re ready to go!

Wear these with colored jeans to balance out the color but keep the edgy vibe.
