Back To School Shops: Where to Go

Saturday, July 27th, 2013

Back to school is one of my favorite times of year! I love it when the stores start coming out with the notebooks folders, and pencils. It can be overwhelming though, so I’ve broken down the best stores to shop for BTS.

To trick out your locker: Walmart has lamps, wallpaper, even air freshener!

For cute notebooks and folders: Target is great for pretty patterns and witty sayings, but for the hottest celebs head to Walmart.

For graphic tees: Kohls has everything you need from cool bands to fun characters. (Like Hello Kitty!)

For the funkiest dresses around: Head to Hot Topic for edgy cool styles.

For jeans that won’t break the bank: Go to Old Navy! They have every wash, every color, and every size.

Hope this helped you find you BTS style.

One of a Kind Fashion!!

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013

This past weekend, I had the fabulous experience of attending the Randolph Street Market in Chicago, IL.  It was amazing! I saw some fabulous one of a kind pieces and got to meet amazing people. Here’s my roundup of the top places to visit.

  •  Gypsy Temple has authentic Indian and Nepali clothing, jewelry, shoes, and materials. Everything’s completely original, and the prices are great. I’d recommend this to anyone with a bohemian style and an appreciation for culturally inspired finds.
  •  Weber Antiques, based in Grayslake, IL, is a great place for antique vintage jewelry. It has a treasure trove of well-priced yet exquisitely beautiful jewelry and distinctive gemstones. The owner enjoys sharing stories of some of his vintage pieces. This jewelry stand is one of my favorites.
  •  Danielle Russo has a selection of jewelry with a rocker-inspired aesthetic. Check out her stand for statement conversation pieces that are sure to get noticed. (Check out her Etsy shop too!)
  •  GreenFoxStyle/Vertmoderne is amazing! Whatever you’re looking for, whether that be amazing vintage purses or recycled jewelry, they have. I love the interesting materials they use! (Like tiny rubber bands in jewelry)! Check out the Etsy shops!

All in all, Randolph Street market is a phenomenal destination for anyone who loves one of a kind fashion. Missed it this month? No worries! There are several more markets this year. 2013 dates are as follows.

May 25-26

June 29-30

Summer Airport Style

Tuesday, May 14th, 2013

So summer’s coming up, and with summer comes aewsome vacays! Airport fashion is hard to master, so I,ve typed up a guide to help you know what to wear on your next vacation.
Zip it, slip it. I’m wearing my black knee high boots. It’s best to wear zip on or slip on shoes so it’s easier to get in and out of airport security.
Whatever you do, don’t wear just a cardi or sweatshirt over a sports bra. The airport people will make you take the jacket off and you will have to walk through the security scanner wearing only the bra. Awkward!
No high heels. If you’ve ever been traveling, you know you will be on your feet a lot.
Comfort above all else. You still want to look presentable, but if you wear a tight miniskirt and tube top, you will be tugging at the outfit all day.
Hope this helps!

Fabulous Fashion Books

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

Some fashion and style books that have helped me find, define, and learn more about the fashion I love:

  • The Seventeen Ultimate Guide to Style. Great for finding your personal fashion vibe.
  • Fashion 101. I loved learning about where the clothes I wear come from.
  • The Teen Vogue Handbook.  Fab for learning about careers in fashion

The New Black

Sunday, February 17th, 2013

Hey, fashionistas! Pantone just came up with their latest color of the year, and it’s emerald green. The luxurious green color goes with a lot more than you think, and looks fab with every skin tone. Use it as a neutral and pair it with other brights and patterns, or make it the focal point of your outfit. Color-shy? Try it as an accessory.

What to Wear to a Party

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

Hey, fashionistas! Let’s talk about parties. What to wear totally depends on how formal the occasion is and what you will be doing. It’s very important not to be underdressed or overdressed. And make sure you can do whatever you are expected to do in your clothes. For example, if you are going bowling, don’t wear a constricting dress!

Cool Boots for Winter!

Saturday, December 22nd, 2012

I love boots. They are my fave kind of shoe, but wear the wrong kind and it looks so bad. One hot style this season is ankle boots. I think they look best cool and slouchy tucked into skinnies. Uggs are casual and comfy, but I like them to be more chic, like chocolate brown or higher on your leg. The more luxe the better! The last of my fave trends is chic rain boots. Yes, you read that right. I’ve really seen it ALL when it comes to those things. Pink, polka dot, you name it!

What to Wear on Your First Date

Saturday, December 1st, 2012

So he asked you to go to the movies with him and his family. Or to go bowling with him. Or whatever! The point is, you’re going on a real date with a real boy.And you have (or so you think) nothing to wear. Well, the first rule to first date dressing is to not follow any rules. No facades! Express who you are. Are you a leather jacket and combat boots girl? Or a flowy skirt and floral top girl? Whatever your fashion persona, own your look on your first date with your special guy!

Amazing Jeans for Less than $10!!!

Sunday, September 16th, 2012

You know those super clearance treasure trove racks at Kohl’s?  Well, my latest find is some $7.20 dark wash flare jeans. They make your legs look miles long and make your booty look amazing. Snap them up while they last. They have limited sizes and lengths. Tip: They run small. Buy one size larger than you usually do for the most flattering look. Also, with flats, a 5’5 figure can pull off a petite style.

Skinny Jeans: Why They Work for You

Saturday, August 18th, 2012

Sometimes skinny jeans look impossible to wear if you’re not a supermodel. But they look good on more shapes than you would think. They highlight the length of tall girls legs and lengthen petite girls legs. They accentuate and also create curves. The only shape I would not recommend the curve hugging jeans to are girls with bigger thighs, because they cling to the legs so tightly.
